BTCC - concept

can't get the real pics of the BTCC car Gen-2 (sold as Pesona in Malaysia)
this is Concept taken in Guangzhou Auto Show, China

This car will be set to Next Generation Touring Car spec series...the “unbranded” turbo direct injection electronic throttle engine, which has 2.0 liters in displacement and makes over 300 horses, with the option for an overboost as well....but...British Touring Car Championship organiser TOCA has today (21st April 2011) announced that following full analysis of technical data* and taking into consideration other relevant results/information, the new maximum boost limit for all turbocharged cars in the series will be 0.1 bar lower than that recorded by each car on the TOCA Performance Monitoring Device (Logger) during qualifying and rounds four, five and six at Donington Park. This will take effect for and from seven (7) of the 2011 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship (Thruxton 30 April-1May). It effectively means that whatever boost pressure each car was previously logged as using (i.e below the former 1.8 limit), then they will each now run to 0.1bar less

BTCC - Proton Gen-2

The Welch Motorsport team has announced plans to enter a Next Generation Touring Car-specification version of Proton’s Gen-2 model in the second half of this year’s Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship.

Team principal John Welch has confirmed to btcc.net that the project – using the booted version of the Gen-2 – is already some way down the road. He is hopeful that the car, to be driven by 27-year-old son Daniel, will make its debut at Snetterton in early August when the BTCC season recommences after a summer break.
The Fleet-based squad will also use TOCA’s unbranded turbocharged NGTC engine, added Welch.

Welch Snr, himself a former great in the world of rallycross, told btcc.net: “We are scheduled to take delivery of the Proton road car today (Wednesday) to begin the process of building it into a BTCC car – so the realistic target is to come into the series in the second half of the season with a longer-term ambition of running two cars.
“Obviously it’s a very different challenge but in recent years we’ve come up against grids of 30 or 40 cars in the SEAT Leon Eurocup and been right at the sharp end, so have learnt something about making a saloon car go quickly.

“Daniel would be one of the quick youngsters coming in. He’s been very quick in everything he’s driven since he was seven years old – he lives and breathes motor racing and has always been fully involved on the engineering side so is a proper all-round competitor. I’m confident he really has the ability to cut it in the BTCC.”

BTCC 2011 Season
Starts 2nd-3rd April @ Brands Hatch

BTCC - 2011 Season

The Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship today confirmed a record entry list ahead of its 2011 season with the highest number of different makes and car models entered for the series in the two decades it has run as an all two-litre formula.

Ten makes of car representing Audi, BMW, Chevrolet, Ford, Honda, Proton, SEAT, Toyota, Vauxhall and Volkswagen will all feature on this year’s flourishing grid. Out of those, 13 different models will be gearing up for action including: Audi A4, BMW 320si, Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Lacetti, Ford Focus, ‘Global’ Ford Focus, Honda Civic, Honda Integra, Proton Gen-2, SEAT Leon, Toyota Avensis, Vauxhall Vectra and VW Golf.

This beats the previous record (nine makes and 11 models in 1993) seen in the BTCC’s two-litre era that began in 1991. In total, 27 entries have been received for the 2011 season, the first event of which is staged at the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent in ten days’ time on Sunday 3 April. From there the title race will head off on a high-speed, action packed, six-month tour of the UK, with ten race events in total at nine different motor sport venues culminating with Finals Day, this year being staged at British Formula 1 Grand Prix venue of Silverstone, Northants – host of today’s Media Day season launch – on Sunday 16 October.

Notably, the Audi, Proton and Toyota entries are all for cars built to the BTCC’s dynamic new Next Generation Touring Car technical regulations which provide dramatically reduced costs and have led directly to four new teams alone joining the BTCC for 2011.
